Paul St. Hilaire to Release New Album Featuring Batu, Mala and More

The nine-track w/ The Producers is out next month

Paul St. Hilaire, the dub techno vocalist otherwise known as Tikiman, is releasing a new album.

Spanning nine tracks, w/ The Producers sees the artist link up with a stacked cast of beatmakers that includes Batu, Mala, Shinichi Atobe, Gavsborg and Azu Tiwaline, among others. The record’s title is a play on Rhythm & Sound’s classic 2004 album w/ The Artists, on which St. Hilaire featured.

w/ The Producers follows the vocalist’s 2023 album Tikiman Vol. 1, and it will be released via the label Kynant Records, much like its predecessor. St. Hilaire and Kynant founder Richard Akingbehin – who curated the list of guest artists featured on w/ The Producers – will perform together at Glasgow’s Sub Club this Friday (August 1), while Kynant will also present a series of 10th anniversary events at Open Ground in Wuppertal, Garage Noord in Amsterdam, Globus in Berlin and Venue MOT in London before the end of the year.

Listen to the new album’s lead track, the Mala-produced ‘Like It’s Always Been’, below.

First-ever reissue of René van Helsdingen’s 1978 debut album Coal Mining

Sdban Records is proud to announce the first official reissue of Coal Mining, the 1978 debut album by Dutch jazz pianist René van Helsdingen. This album marks a significant milestone—the beginning of van Helsdingen’s decades-spanning career as an innovative and independent musician.

Coal Mining was originally released on Munich Records, a respected Dutch jazz and roots label founded by music producer and musician Job Zomer. The album features a blend of jazz influences from giants such as Oscar Peterson, McCoy Tyner, and Bill Evans, and showcases van Helsdingen’s distinctive voice as a composer and pianist at the very start of his professional journey. It’s often mistakenly referred to as Piano, a result of the album’s back cover design prominently featuring the word.

Now, nearly five decades after its initial release, Coal Mining is finally receiving a well-deserved reissue. Introducing a new generation of listeners to the raw talent and visionary beginnings of a true European jazz original.

Tracklist

A1. René Van Helsdingen – Coal Mining
A2. René Van Helsdingen – 3/4 Distillation
A3. René Van Helsdingen – Salt Lake Speedway
B1. René Van Helsdingen – Bauxite Mining
B2. René Van Helsdingen – Syto Plankton
B3. René Van Helsdingen – Offshore Sounds

The reissue will be available via Sdban Records on September 26 2025.

Mr Norris Changes Brains, a globetrotting psychedelic journey in 42 tracks!

Richard Norris, of The Grid and Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve, has announced details of a new, 42-track compilation, Mr Norris Changes Brains, which blends groove-heavy psychedelia with global oddities.

Tracks include Boston-based Banchee’s Evolmia, Turkish psych-funk from Köy Kardeşler, a Hammond-driven stomper from Rare Bird, and Iron Butterfly’s Iron Butterfly Theme.

“A lot of these tracks are fairly recent discoveries, things that I’ve discovered from around the time I started working with Erol [Alkan] and going right up to today,” Norris explains. “Whether that’s from going out to play and finding new records in places like Istanbul or just connecting with people online from all around the world.

“Psych can sometimes be a sort of narrow-minded field, with everything having to sit in its specific niche, but more and more people are open to new sounds and that’s allowed for a much broader selection.”

As a press release put it, the compilation will showcase ‘mind-expanding sounds that have emerged everywhere from the valleys of Wales to sweaty Parisian basements, from underground Turkish clubs to Italian film scores and beyond’.
